| 1807 | Unreal Tournament | games | -1 | Unreal Tournament | Hell, what's with the Matrox support? It's an awesome card, and the win32 version beats w/ it. How long must we wait for the linux version? | 1999-12-11 13:44:21 | 0 |
| 1808 | Unreal Tournament | games | 1735 | Unreal Tournament | Hi all. I just wanted to copy and paste an item I found on linuxgames.com today...
Sven Riedel wrote in with the following:
Hi, for all those ut players under linux, who are just dying to know how the background music of the levels sound like - I hacked together a small program that will strip the ut headers off of the .umx music files, and dumps them as modules that can be played by e.g. mikmod. It can be grabbed from
http://www.heim1.de/~sriedel/ut2mod/
So it looks like there is now music in UT for Linux. :) | 1999-12-11 15:25:25 | 0 |
| 1809 | Boulder Dash | games | -1 | Boulder Dash | I can`t believe this crap about this version makes it hard for them to negotiate a price. I mean haven`t they heard of "competition" before? Just rename it, take out all references to it being a Boulder Dash clone, and i can`t see what they can do, as long as you drew all the graphics yourself, and all code was written from scratch by you, then they are stuffed... good luck.. | 1999-12-11 16:11:55 | 0 |
| 1810 | Boulder Dash | games | 810 | Boulder Dash | It's always a shame to hear about freeware authors getting jumped on by the lawyers - but making such a blatent clone of a commercial game is really asking for trouble.
If you are going to spend that much effort on implementing a game, why not make something moderately original?
Whatever you feel about the justice of this, the law is undoubtedly on the side of the original author and his licensees. With the present craze for retro-gaming (heck we even have an N64 PONG revival!), the BoulderDash license is certainly worth real money - and if I had paid money for the license, I would defend it too.
Let's just build ORIGINAL games. *PLEASE*? | 1999-12-11 18:51:00 | 0 |
| 1811 | Boulder Dash | games | -1 | Boulder Dash |
I've read the complaint RSpitalny@aol.com sent to Miroslav and found it very immature, uneducated, and obscenly untactful.

Lawyer intervention should be the last resort on an individual creating a non-original and non-commercial game where copyright was clearly respected.

Richard should have atleast discussed the issue with Miroslav reasonably before using `sledgehammer justice'. Just for that, I would like to see the Linux version of Boulder Dash distributed via the warez channels... maybe Richard can learn some maturity about good and evil that way.
| 1999-12-11 22:13:19 | 0 |
| 1812 | Quake 3 Dedicated Server | games | -1 | Quake 3 Dedicated Se | Anyone had any luck with the server? I have tried, but failed to make it work. Points of interest: They say to make a directory called baseq3, however the server looks for demoq3... Thats not too hard to fix ;) Corrupt pak0.pk3 file. Tried copying from the win98 cd several times (as the instructions say) but had no luck. If someone knows how to get this to work, please email me. Thanks louash@home.com | 1999-12-12 02:49:54 | 0 |
| 1813 | Quake 3 Dedicated Server | games | -1 | Quake 3 Dedicated Se | I get the problem that says "Error: Couldn't load default.cfg" I took the default.cfg out of the pak and put it in both the q3 and q3/baseq3 directories. Anyone know what's up? running on a modified suse 6.2 install, running version 1.1 of the server. | 1999-12-12 06:17:21 | 0 |
| 1814 | SMM++ | games | 2437 | SMM++ | SMM++ V4.2 allows to arrange the userinterface to your needs (dont forget to save it). Furthermore the mapper is loadable in a separate window or if you prefer a single window just switch between 'map only', 'mud only' and 'map & mud' as you need. These improvements should solve the 'window-clutter' on low resolution displays. Please drop me a line, if you still have problems. Thanks a lot! Selim | 1999-12-12 08:30:25 | 0 |
| 1815 | Defendguin | games | 2817 | Defendguin | I like the theme of this game, but it has a few problems. Hopefully these will be fixed by the time it gets past the alpha stage, which is why I haven't given a rating. Specifically, the game is far too easy. I stopped playing at 80,000 points because it was getting boring. Even if you shoot all the penguins, it is still too easy. The main reason for this is that the lasers move too slowly - they should appear and then disappear immediately. The animations is also a bit jerky, perhaps because I am running it on a P200. It also crashed my computer when I exited, but then it is still in alpha. | 1999-12-12 08:39:49 | 0 |
| 1816 | Boulder Dash | games | -1 | Boulder Dash | The email is a load of garbage. U.S. courts have always struck down the ``look & feel'' argument. All the author of this clone has to do is strip out any of the offending graphics, sounds, etc. and he'll be ok. Atari tried similar tactics back in the early 80's (see Hackers by Steven Levy) and they lost in court--as a matter a fact they lost to Seierra On-line. I hope the author of the clone continues to create his BoulderDash clone and all this ``intellectual'' property go shove their heads in the sand!! How dare they try and closet ideas. This kind of garbage really stinks. I will the author of the clone the best of luck! Please continue to make your game. | 1999-12-12 16:27:32 | 0 |
