It's worth buying if you like Civ-type games, but it's not a game that will captivate you for years to come. The graphics are great, and the music is great, but the sound effects (and some of the units) are a little cutesy. There are some programming/resource issues (this game leaks memory like a broken faucet -- save and restart every 3 hours), and there are still some game-crashing bugs even in the 1.1 patch. It seemed to make the mouse a lot nicer -- I'm using an IntelliMouse, and I put the "SampleRate 100" and "Resolution 300" lines in my Pointer section of my XF86Config, and using an accel factor of 8 in the game I get good, responsive mouse movement. I noticed that with this, it's important not to set an "xset m 3 2" or any other speed/threshold settings with xset.
