| 1478 | 2 | 2000-10-18 08:48:17 | Montreal, Oct 18, 2000 - Paradox Entertainment has licensed the Canadian developer Tribsoft the right to convert the acclaimed historical game Europa Universalis to Linux. Tribsoft Inc. will cooperate with Hyperion Entertainment on the Mac and Amiga version.
The market for Linux software has grown explosively the last year. The lack of new games for Mac has also been evident and Europa Universalis, which has a sophisticated market, fits the platform. Paradox Entertainment internally developed the Windows-version but has decided to licence the right to Tribsoft who has specialized in converting popular games especially for Linux.
"Our focus still lies in programming for the windows platform and the upcoming game consoles and our internal resources are concentrated on our online games. Since we know that Europa Universalis has a market in other platforms it feels natural to quickly start cooperation with a leading developer in the field," says Fredrik Malmberg, Business Developer at Paradox Entertainment. The windows version has been licensed to several publishers around the world.
"Since we are strategy gamers, we have always been interested to increase our product offering with the best strategy games available. We were very impressed by the game Europa Universalis and we are proud to bring this game to Linux gamers" says Mathieu Pinard, President at Tribsoft Inc. Tribsoft is a Canadian company that is specialised in converting popular games to Linux, the latest projects being Jagged Alliance 2 and Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business.
In Europa Universalis the player takes the role as one of eight superpowers during 300 years, from the age of Columbus to Napoleon. 60 minor countries are AI controlled and will react to world events and the player's actions. Religion, Trade, Conquest, Discoveries and Diplomacy must be managed skilfully to win the game! It is one of the most ambitious historic games ever made and has been critically acclaimed by international gaming press. | Tribsoft to port Europa Universalis | default

We think it will be a very good addition for the Linux gamers" says Mathieu Pinard, President at Tribsoft Inc. Tribsoft is a Canadian company that is specialized in converting popular games to Linux, the latest projects being Jagged Alliance 2 and Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business.
In addition of Majesty, Tribsoft secured the rights to Majesty: The Northern Expansion. The Northern Expansion adds new quests, new buildings, new monsters and a new tileset.
Majesty is a unique sim putting you in the crushed velvet hotseat of your own kingdom. With an epic quest before you, you make the decisions of where to build your settlement's guilds and temples. Each one has a mind of its own and must be enticed to meet your goals, via rewards you offer and spells you cast. Meanwhile you must make sure that your treasury stays flush with cash to support these and other outlays necessary to maintain a thriving medieval town. The fact that you are being barraged by attacks from mythical beasts and fantastic creatures doesn't make your job any easier. | Tribsoft porting Majesty to Linux | default
