This is an AI opponent for an intense strategy game called "go".

Unlike chess, which is relatively easy to computerize, programs aren't all that good at go. I consider this a testament to go's rich strategy.

If you want a really good opponent, check out cgoban, which lets you play humans at go. But if you'd rather practice against a computer first, baduki is a reasonable choice.

baduki has a GTK+ interface, or you
can play under cgoban with the GMP
protocol.

GnomeHack is a Gnome port of NetHack, the popular role-playing game based loosely on Advanced Dungeons and Dragons(tm). If you have ever played any role-playing games, you probably know how much fun they can be, and NetHack is the greatest (IMHO) of all the Rogue-like games. |

Loki has put up two patches to the Civ:CTP beta on their beta page, along with a list of known and solved bugs. If you're a beta tester, grab these files and install em before you report any new bugs. Warning: one of the patches is kind of big: 5 meg, so plan for a long download. You can get the files from our Loki mirror too. |

Congratulations to the guys at Singularity Software! Their game Fire and Darkness has been awarded both the Grand Prize and the Audience Choice awards at the Independent Games Festival, part of the Game Developers Conference being held this week in San Jose, CA. The award is well-deserved. FND kicks ass. If you haven't checked out the demo yet, do so. It'll be one of the prettiest things on your Linux box. Hopefully these awards will help the game get to the store shelves quicker so we can all play this cool strategy game.

Now you can have a Happypenguin.org channel on your My Netscape page! Just use this URL or the Add Channel button on the About page to get the latest Game Tome news items displayed on your personal My Netscape page.

Similarly, if you're using slashdot's new dynamic news box feature, you can opt to have a Happypenguin box on your custom slashdot page. Unfortunately you won't see any news in it yet, just some headings inside an empty box. I'm told by the slashdot guys that they're "working on it". You can preview slashdot's happypenguin box with this link. |
