krilo | games | 164 | Krilo preview | Warning: as of the 1.0f (pre?)release, the RPM is broken (missing an SDL file; replacing it from stock SDL doesn't seem to work for some reason) and the tarball doesn't exist. I haven't tried the Debian package. <P> (Since I couldn't try it, I can't rate the game.) | 1999-10-23 13:21:16 | 0
krilo | games | -1 | Krilo preview | Well...<BR> It's nice to see an upstream maintainer finally releasing Debian packages. <P> On the other hand...<BR> This program is poorly packaged (it ought to depend on the sdl libraries), doesn't appear to even work on Potato, there's no apt source given, and -- worst of all -- it declares itself to be in section "games" when it should be in "non-free/games". Not to mention the following Lintian errors: (I'm being nice and snipping problems caused by changes in policy since slink)<P> W: krilo: executable-not-elf-or-script usr/share/gnome/apps/Games/krilo.desktop<BR> W: krilo: executable-not-elf-or-script usr/lib/games/krilo/levels.pak<BR> W: krilo: executable-not-elf-or-script usr/share/pixmaps/krilo-icon.png<BR> W: krilo: executable-not-elf-or-script usr/lib/games/krilo/krilo.pak<BR> E: krilo: shlib-with-non-pic-code usr/lib/games/krilo/libmixer.so<BR> E: krilo: shlib-with-non-pic-code usr/lib/games/krilo/libSDLx11.so.0.11.1<BR> E: krilo: shlib-with-non-pic-code usr/lib/games/krilo/libIMG.so<BR> E: krilo: no-shlibs-control-file usr/lib/games/krilo/libSDLx11.so.0.11.1<P> What are datafiles executable for? And maybe that non-pic code explains my problems with 'unable to load shared libraries'?<P> All in all -- pretty screenshots but a sloppy piece of packaging and non-free on top of it. Feh, say I. | 1999-10-23 16:55:26 | 0
psDoom | games | -1 | psDoom | A wonderful hack and definitely a must have. I always wished to be able to have THIS sort of interface to top. Now, if just it were possible to use that shotgun (or, even better, the BFG 9k) against users directly, it would definitely be very nice :) | 1999-10-23 19:53:00 | 0
Unreal Tournament Demo client | games | -1 | Unreal Tournament De | I don't know. Sure, it's a nice game and it looks sort of good but I was expecting more. It's gone the futuristic route and q3 is not the same. I do beleive there will be those kind of levels for q3 though, Im almost sure of it. q3 also is a lot faster on my machine and this game seems to get bogged down in some parts. The textures are not as nice as q3 either and the geometry in q3 is so much better. This seems like a good looking boxy game to me. Anyway, it has gotten a lot of praise here which it should but I believe q3 will be better. q3 just feels so much better, maybe it's just me. Anywayone else exepcting more out of the game? | 1999-10-23 20:58:35 | 0
Unreal Tournament Demo client | games | 2509 | Unreal Tournament De | <p>It's really pretty good. The 'Bots are fun -- since I have a slow line to the net, sometimes playing against real people is frustrating. The graphics are good, but I believe Q3 has a slight edge. With the skeletal system in place, I think Q3 will have the final graphic edge. <p>The weapon balance is cool and the lethality seems less than Q3, so the firefights are sometimes longer. I like that. <p>It loses a point because it seems to me the designers played a ton of Q3 when the first test came out, advanced the 'bots from Unreal, and added a ton of options. This is not necessarily a bad formula, but lack of originality has to be factored into the rating... <p><em>-- Bander</em> | 1999-10-23 23:00:27 | 0

Unreal Tournament Demo client | games | -1 | Unreal Tournament De | Not bad game at all. 3 problems though. One, You aint going to play this "well" on a dial-up connection. Second, Myselg of any of my roomates have gotten the num-pad to confugure. Third, the last map causes the game to lock up. Yet this aside tis a fun alternative to Q3 | 1999-10-24 14:55:48 | 0
BumpRace | games | 2245 | BumpRace | Did not entertain me for a long time. There is not enough >gameplay<, i think. But the sound is pretty good. Remins me of old Amiga-demos! | 1999-10-24 15:54:26 | 0
psDoom | games | 577 | psDoom | Woaw, beware of which process you kill :) that's a pity there is only the PID number below the soldier, the PID's name would be more useful. (I've been killed by "xeyes", what a shame!) | 1999-10-24 17:19:00 | 0
