| 1318 | GnomeHack | games | 2051 | GnomeHack | Nethack itself is a five-star game, to be sure. But tile-based variants are just... eww. This isn't a slam against GnomeHack -- it's a fairly decent example of its genre, that genre being "let's make Nethack ugly". There's a REASON rogue got away with being so darned ugly, folks -- it left things to the imagination. The teeny little tiles can't do the job they're meant to. The windows quickly get on your nerves, too. Graphical roguelike == evil. Always has been. Always will. The -only way- to make a graphical Nethack is to go all out. Once you draw a single pretty picture, you've got to make it all just as pretty, or you disgrace it. Diablo worked as a roguelike. Gnomehack does not. | 1999-08-31 19:28:03 | 0 |
| 1319 | Roll 'm Up | games | -1 | Roll 'm Up | I am wondering if anyone knows how to make this game play nice with gnome/e. I make a script that kills esound daemon and launch the game with sound but I cannot figure out how to make the script startup esd again for that gnome/e session. Big Pain. Any help? --Alphaville | 1999-08-31 21:38:17 | 0 |
