13036 Simutrans games -1 Re: Great, but... I dont know any system with SDL that doesnt have sdl_mixer installed :) 2003-08-05 15:40:49 9239
13037 Exult games -1 Exult I've played Exult right from its humble begginings and wow... There is so much to it today. A fine example of a reverse-engineering project that now plays higher standard than the origional game itself! And congradulations on the Exult toolkit, I'm sure many people will make ultima7 'worlds' of their own in time :)

You've also done quite well considering you arn't allowed to recieve donations because of EA (Electronic Arts) learing overhead.

Keep up the wonderful work, and remember.... The stealing function in the game isn't perfect yet so please keep working on it :) 2003-08-05 16:21:16 0
13038 Neverball games 4512 Go on Compile, but No Go on controls You could make it a compile-time option (#ifdef CAREFUL_TTF ... #endif or similar), perhaps. Worrying about whether or not a function will work OK isn't such a bad thing! But I'm already OK for that here, as I'd already installed a source version of SDL_ttf- but this meant I had to add -I/usr/local/include/SDL to the flags in the makefile to get it to work.
Now, it compiles OK and doesn't crash... but as soon as the game starts, the whole world started spinning like something mad and the ball appears to fall into nowhere (presumably because the board had shot away from it). I tried mucking about with the mouse sensitivity option in the config file, but that didn't seem to help.
Then tried reducing screen res to 800x600, turning down geometry and textures (my G400 is hardly cutting edge nowadays), and tried again. Tried not clicking the mouse button when it said "Ready?" and waited instead. Game started without too much spinning and shuddering. But I still found the board would often start shaking pretty uncontrollably (until the ball hit the sides, strangely).
If all this is down to mouse sensitivity, perhaps there could be iin-game configuration for that? 2003-08-05 17:30:35 13027
13040 Neverball games 7378 excellent but oh so hard. 2003-08-05 17:37:27 0
13041 Neverball games 8308 Nice Sweet game, I still have to play with it more to rate it but very nice. 2003-08-05 17:48:40 0
13042 Scorched 3D games 4512 Re: Excellent Well, maybe not 100% original, as there was another 3D Scorched Earth clone for Linux called NATOW, but I think NATOW is abandonware now, and I couldn't compile that either (and because I can't play either, I can't say how they compare).
(Tomble is glum about this) 2003-08-05 18:08:24 13018
13043 n.a.t.o.w. games 4512 Re: Can't compile Glass is packaged separately, and you're supposed to install it first. You're meant to be able to set something in the Makefile so it works without Glass, but that doesn't work either.
AFAICT Glass is still being developed whilst NATOW is not. Anybody else know for sure? 2003-08-05 18:09:13 12938
13044 Neverball games -1 Few things Nice game! Real fun to play but there are a few things that bug me:

If the ball manages to get under the level (pretty easy if there is a hole in the middle of it) you still see the shadow above the surface.

If the ball bounces up high, the shadow remains the same size, it'd be a nice touch of it got a little smaller the higher the ball is.

The graphics are really nice and crisp and you used nice high resolution textures, but the background however is real blury and makes everything else feel kinda icky.

2003-08-05 18:43:34 0
13045 Scorched 3D games -1 Re: Errors compiling version 2.4.1.1 Well now... What's this? I installed these packages and got no errors. When checking rpm for this message... Well here's what I found. [root@spock bill]# rpm -q wxGTK* package wxGTK-2.4.1-1.i386.rpm is not installed package wxGTK-gl-2.4.1-1.i386.rpm is not installed package wxGTK-static-2.4.1-1.i386.rpm is not installed Soooooo how does my system know the names of the packages, yet they are not installed? I think something might be fishy with these WxGTK packages. They sure seemed to install ok. Yet, rpm says "No"??? Here's the result I get when trying to install (again): Package already installed The package "wxGTK-static" is currently installed. So WTF? 2003-08-05 18:49:31 13000
13046 Neverball games -1 Re: Few things Also, the hud seems a little huge. Could maybe there be a hudscale option in the neverballrc file? The timer especially takes up a lot of screen real estate. 2003-08-05 18:49:47 13044
