LinBolo | games | -1 | Re: Mac game? | Well it apparently originally appeared on the BBC Micro, not the apple II. But don't take my word for it, read all about it on <A HREF="http://www.stuartcheshire.org/">the author's website</A>. Certainly it got big and networked on the macintosh. | 2003-08-02 19:45:46 | 12859

I'll keep on it. Allegedly, 2.4.1 fixes all this grief. But I'm still hacking at it. | 2003-08-02 19:53:59 | 12944 |
Scorched 3D | games | -1 | Scorched 3D | to all those having trouble: in most cases, installing wxwindows (http://www.wxwindows.org/) can solve your problem. i compiled and installed it using /usr for a configure prefix. scorched3d failed to configure with wxwindows installed using /usr/local for a prefix on my system. after getting wxwindows installed, the game compiled and ran fine. hope this helps those who were having trouble. | 2003-08-02 20:12:12 | 0
Scorched 3D | games | 4512 | Re: Scorched 3D | Well I'm using the Debian packages of wXwindows, which like all Debian packages (OK, apart from the base packages), already install under /usr rather than /usr/local. So I don't think it's that. <P>I'm still pretty sure it's a matter of autoconf, etc. Can anybody give a reason why ordinary users would want to be going through all the autoconf, automake, etc stuff rather than just having a precreated configure script like most projects (apart from those which don't use configure at all) do? <P>I do hope to see this thing working some time, it does sound neat. I'm sure someone'll be able to find some solution soon. | 2003-08-02 21:05:07 | 12951
Scorched 3D | games | 4512 | Re: Scorched 3D | Whoops, just after posting this comment, I saw some of the others that had appeared since I was here yesterday. I realised that I hadn't got the <I>base</I> packages of the wXwindows libraries, only the ones like libwXwin-gtk (or whatever). But of course, a working, precreated configure script would be able to tell the user whether or not any development libraries are missing. <P>So I downloaded the base library packages (yes, including the development packages), and sure enough... <P>It made no difference whatsoever. Same problem. In response to something someone asked earlier, the first errors reported, which are probably the cause of the later ones, are <BR> + aclocal<BR> aclocal: configure.ac: 79: macro `AM_OPTIONS_WXCONFIG' not found in library<BR> aclocal: configure.ac: 80: macro `AM_PATH_WXCONFIG' not found in library<BR> and then automake churns out far too many errors to list here (I make it 61 pages), but they're all the same and appear to be something to do with files in subdirectories or something. <P>Oh well... | 2003-08-02 21:23:24 | 12952
Scorched 3D | games | 4512 | Re: compile | I'm not using v3 of GCC, I'm using V2.95. So I don't think that'd help. | 2003-08-02 21:25:37 | 12948
ScummVM | games | 506 | Wonderfull | With support for 'Beneath a Steel Sky' and having that same game available as Freeware it gets even better than it already was. Good to see that the old adventure games are keep accessible, while there are so few new once produced these days. Only problem that I could find so far: No way to switch at runtime between fullscreen or window mode (maybe there is some and I couldn't find it...) and the configure script doesn't really configure anything, so Makefile editing was required to get it to compile, but luckly trivial. | 2003-08-03 03:22:34 | 0
ScummVM | games | -1 | ScummVM | a) use alt enter to switch between windowed and fullscreen b) the configure script is to be used with Makefile.new, the current "Makefile" will be renamed for the next release most probably | 2003-08-03 03:29:37 | 0
Scorched 3D | games | 6896 | Excellent! | This is wonderful! I'm very impressed... Always loved Scorched Earth, but this takes the game several huge steps ahead of any present tank game I know of... Oh, and it's very nice to finally see a fully functional game for Linux... Finally, a finished project and a very nice one indeed... | 2003-08-03 04:20:23 | 0
