| 12884 | Porrog | games | 4512 | Tum te tum | Hookay, as my hit counter seems to show I've had over 100 people looking at the site since the game was announced, I'll remind everybody (as I did before) that pretty much any comments are welcome. <P>Particularly, if you found something confusing (other than the hjkl movement keys, which are extremely common in roguelike games, not to mention in vi, less, and other programs), then if you mention it, I could write up a helpfile on it for the new <I>in-game browsable help system</I> that you'll be able to see in the next release (I finished it a few hours after releasing the current one, so it's not vapourware, OK?). <P>I'd quite like to hear from anyone who's got experience with DGJPP too, as I fully intend to have the game playable on Dos/Windows eventually, and I'll need to install DGJPP on DOSemu (my old Windows machine is getting a bit too broken to use for that). Hmm, now I can't remember why it is I think my old copy of Borland isn't appropriate for the task... Oh well. <P>Oh yeah, and as Defiance rated the game 5 stars, I'm rating myself down again, because I think games should get what they're actually worth, and Porrog still lacks some of the most important gameplay features (because design decisions need to be made, not because they're hard to program). Everyone who isn't american wants to be american and you are all just jealous. We have the coolest people on earth and the hottest ladies too. Oh yeah, ATI produces crap. NVidia rocks. Their drivers work on my machine just dandy. Not only do they work but they are free. So what if they aren't open source, all the linux users complaining here have a system made up of 99% free software, not to mention most linux users are too cheap to buy any software any way, so they download some closed source software and crack it then act all high and mighty about some software that was "given" to them free of charge. To top that off, Nvidia asks nothing in return, you are not obligated to even say thank you to them. Use your crappy ATI cards, I'll still be getting killer framerates from my Nvidia card and getting regular "automatic" updates when the new drivers are released. If you are so concerned about some open source nvidia drivers, then write some yourself smart people, then release them unter the GPL and I will download them for free. Then you will probably bitch that you worked so hard and you aren't getting paid enough for your efforts. Its like that, people complain but when it comes down to it, most of the people complaining would want payment for their efforts. Nvidia doesn't. All they are doing is saying thank you to the linux users who support them by supporting their product for linux. See how many other companies put as much effort into their drivers for linux. It's true that you get more out of it with more powerful cards, but it's by no means a requirement. I have personally played it on a computer with a geforce 2 with 32 megs, and it still played just fine on fairly average video settings across the board. Nvidia isn't doing a favor by releasing drivers for the open source crowd , it's called product support and it's obligatory. Now you'll say that with such a small userbase they weren't obliged to support us but even that is coincidental. The drivers are based on the higher-end chipset's drivers (QuadroXX , most serious 3D work gets done on Linux nowadays) that's why they have adequate performance , if it were only for consumers we would get sh*t .
