| 12865 | Theocracy | games | 6924 | Nope | Theocracy is another study in how not to do a Linux port. A brief look shows that this game is worthwhile and interesting, but the port is functionally broken.

The game forces you to change your XF86Config-4 to 16bpp.
It doesn't play in fullscreen despite the fact that it was obviously designed to play in fullscreen under Windows.
The window changes size and repositions itself for the ingame movies.
The installer is quirky.
The registration card lists every OS EXCEPT Linux.
Most importantly, they never bothered to issue a single patch.

I really hate it when I try to support the little guy and end up being screwed over. This game is unplayable as is, and it's obvious the authors have no intention of fixing any bugs. It's a shame. It's obviously an interesting game.

If this game was OSS, the bugs would have been fixed years ago. Why do commercial Linux games get such terrible patch support? Release the code so we can get the game working in fullscreen. | 2003-07-29 19:23:33 | 0 |

| 12868 | GtkAtlantic | games | 8247 | Re: GTK2 version?? | Hi, I'm the developer of this software, Why no gtk2 version yet ?, just because gtkAtlantic is now a background project, mainly due to the time I give to develop everestd servers (new server to play board games, like monopd but it will be better I hope ;) http://www.everestd.org, and there are one other reason, gtk2 is too slow, it's quite unusable on my PII 300..., I've started the gtk2 version, but see gtkatlantic as fast as a snail due to gtk2 lib upset me dramatically... This is why I've stopped the swith to gtk2. To talk about my new project: I'm not the creator of any clients for everestd, but one people have started a gtk2 client, so a gtk2 client to play boards games will appear "soon" :) | 2003-07-30 01:56:20 | 12828 |
