Construo games -1 awesome awesome -- stress testing the bridges applies real world potential if physics are set right 2003-07-27 17:41:34 0
Porrog games 7281 First Post! Who needs Doom 3? Who needs Cold War? Thank you for the native port, Tomble!!! It's like console-based crack! I just can't stop playing it! If it wasn't free I might've had to start turning tricks just to support my Porrog habit, then I'd get arrested and beaten by my pimp, until eventually being shot by a twisted John and my body dumped off of a bridge into a river! Er... Well... Either that or I just felt bad for critisizing it in the forums because of the warm fuzzy feeling it gives me (The critisizing, not the fucking mutant hamsters beating my nameless, classless character into a bloody pulp as I stumble around hopelessly because there aren't any keymapping options - short of changing the code and recompiling - and I'm a devout Dvorak user and that's the longest sentence I've ever typed). What was I saying? Oh... Uh... nice game so far... 2003-07-27 20:15:56 0
Porrog games 4512 CowboyNeal ate my post (raises eybrow)<BR> Hmm, not sure what to make of that... But at least someone's commented at last! Please note, everyone, that more-or-less all comments are welcome (apart from "roguelikes suck" and things). I'd really like to know if anybody finds anything particularly <I>confusing</I>, as only a few hours after releasing this version (0.04) onto my website, I implemented a fully browsable <I>help</I> system for the game, which is proving to work quite well, and I need ideas of things to put in it. Apart from the keys (which are already explained there). <P>Regarding the vi/rogue style keys, well, at some point, there'll be options you can set in-game, one of which should be to choose cursor keys to control movement. But I'm not going to make it easy for people by letting them have cursors by default: I'm evangelising the traditional rogue keys! There's reasons for that, it's not just bloody-mindedness, BTW. <P>Incidentally, I'd be interested to know how different the Dvorak layout is to Qwerty. Or were you joking about that? It's hard to tell how much you meant ;) 2003-07-27 20:42:00 12831
Porrog games 4512 Re: First Post! Oh, forgot to mention: if you're finding yourself dying very quickly, you should 'W'ear some of your starting inventory (wielding weapons makes no difference yet). Also, try to fight in corridors, and note that you heal over time, whilst monsters don't (yet). 2003-07-27 21:30:59 12831
Porrog games 7281 Re: CowboyNeal ate my post Oh, I meant it all. Either way, here's the home row, in left-to-right order, of course... The rest you should be able to look up on-line somewhere... aoeuidhtns-[ENTER] 2003-07-27 22:22:34 12832
Neverwinter Nights Installer games 5367 manual extraction Well, my fifth attempt at using this installer has proven the most successful. However, a few files have not been extracted (according to md5sum), a few seem to have been incompletely extracted (they are smaller sizes than expected) and a few have been installed as a filename with no content. Does anyone know if there is a way to manually extract a few files from the cds using wine? If these are cab files, I believe there ought to be a way, but I don't recall and I don't want to attempt it until I have a better idea. 2003-07-28 00:40:09 0
LinBolo games 506 A little bit expensive... For 25$ I would at least excpect a bit more up to date graphics, I am not up to super-fancy 3d, but at least something that doesn't look like a C64 emulation. 2003-07-28 02:17:32 0
Lord of the Rings engine games -1 oooh man, this is sweet :) I remember being sooo disappointed with this game. But at the same time, it was pretty fun after I realized it was no Ultima6 style RPG.... Nice hack, guys! 2003-07-28 02:27:30 0
Gtkboard games -1 Re: Promising, but not there yet Hi, <p> I'm the author of gtkboard. Thanks for your comments. <p> "The graphics currently need polishing." Too true. So little time, and I'm not very good at graphics design :-( It would be great if someone were to contribute some pixmaps and icons and suggestions for improving the UI etc. <p> "The game also needs documentation for the different game types." Could you please explain what you mean by this? There is some documentation in http://gtkboard.sourceforge.net/doc and each game has About/Rules/Strategy sections in help. As for "different game types", there's just single player and two player games. <p> "It would be nice if the engine supported hexagonal tiles" Yup. Planned, but not for the next few months. <p> "allowed one to write game ruls in a higher level language, such as Python or Scheme". That's a great idea. I'd thought of that too, except I don't know much about these languages. Any tips on how I can embed a Python/scheme interpreter in the program? <p> BTW, I've released a couple of new versions. There are now 20 games :) <p> arvindn 2003-07-28 02:47:31 12798
LinBolo games 679 Excellent to see it ported I remember folks at my university playing this game on Mac IIs for hours. I didn't have too much time to get into it, but it was definitely fun. It's been missing from my life since (esp. since I have a friend who has always threatened to 'take me on' ;^) ). Glad to see it's been ported to Linux! 2003-07-28 04:05:46 0
