Remake of Tron: Deadly Discs |
<p>t's a remake of Tron: Deadly Discs for the classic Intellivision console. (Title make sense now?) It's also one of the few, if not the first, Tron freeware games that has nothing to do with light-cycles.
<p>Basically, you run around in an arena fighting off bad guys with your disc. There are four different varieties of bad guy, and one of them has three different varieties of disc. More difficult enemies appear as your score increases, with the most difficult showing up if you can reach 1,000,000 points.
<p>Bad guys enter through doors on the sides of the arena. You can jam these doors open by either hitting them with your disc, or by running into them. If you jam open doors that are opposite each other, you can run in one side and come out the other. This is very important to your survival.
<p>If you jam enough doors, eventually a recognizer will be dispatched to fix them. If you can hit the recognizer when its eye is open, it will stop fixing the doors and leave the arena. Plus, you get lots of points for this.
<p>You can take three hits before you die, and every hit makes you slower! You will eventually recover from damage, regaining your speed as well. Touching the recognizer kills you instantly, so don't do it.
<p>Default controls are the familiar WASD to move, and the outer keys of numpad (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, non-Mac users turn Num Lock on!) throw your disc in any of eight directions. If you press one of the throw keys while your disc is in flight, it will return to you. Discs are harmless when returning. If you move away from your disc as it is flying back, it will never catch up to you, you must stop and catch it. All of the controls can be changed from the main menu. |

Vehicular combat game in the spirit of the Interstate games |
<p>Interstate Outlaws (IO) is a vehicular death match based game created by mostly by college students from the United States, Great Britain, and Australia. It uses Crystal Space, CEL, and ODE. It is written in Python. Inspiration for this project came from old auto combat games the creators played when they were young. IO will be perpetually updated for an indefinite period of time. The software is free under the GPL license, but the developers respectfully request donations through the website to support current and future operations.</p>
<p>In the future, the developers are planning numerous new features. These include, but are not limited to: Sound; Pedestrian mode; More accurate physics modeling; More detailed vehicle models with functioning doors, hoods, and trunks; Storage for small arms and other items in the trunk of the vehicle; Much larger scale and detailed maps; Map Editor; Interchangeable power and drivetrains; Custom vehicle and pedestrian textures; Additional types of game play.</p>

<p>The game runs on Crystal Space's celstart framework. A statically compiled version of celstart (compiled on ubuntu 7.04, linked against python 2.4 and glibc 2.3) is included with the game. If this doesn't work for you, there are two other specialised builds, one against glibc 2.5 and python 2.4, and the other glibc 2.5 and python 2.5.</p>
If none of these builds work, you may compile crystal space yourself.
<p>In order to do this, you will need to install the devel packages of (or compile) SWIG, ODE, and python, and then compile crystal space and CEL, and make sure that your CRYSTAL and CEL environment variables point to those compiled directories.</p> |

An arcade maze game. |
<p>Intruder Alert is a free top-down 2D arcade maze game written in FreePascal using the SDL library for multimedia output. It's a hobby project and was inspired by 80's classics like wolfenstein 2d and alien breed. Basically it's several levels of old school, "find the key and the exit", maze madness. :)
<p>If you want to make a trip down memory lane, back to when games didn't need a 1000 page manual to play, this might be your thing.
