Hu-Go! games 7708 Re: Throw me a bone, please? <p>Back when Nintendo and Sega were still selling 8-bits, NEC came out with its own <b>16-bit</b> console. This was a quantum leap during the mid-late 1980s. Here, take a gander at <a href="http://www.studio42.com/vidgame/TGE/index.shtml">this</a>, it's the handheld version of the console. Cool eh? But sadly the platform died due to lack of quality games, and largely because shortly after the TurboGrafx was released, Nintendo and Sega release their own 16-bit systems.</p> <p>The only game I played on this platform was R-Type, but <a href="http://www.ggdb.com/GGDB/BrowseCategories.asp?Cat=All.Console.TG16">here</a> are more games for the Turbografx.</p> 2003-07-05 08:20:53 12457

FreeDoom games -1 Re: A little late - puuhhhh!!!! Calm down you two :P Freedoom grew out of the doom community, and as such the people who work on it are very familiar with the limitations of the doom engine. To start such work with quake2, we'd need to be very familiar with the engine, the code to which is infinitely more complex. The doom engine is indeed very old, and to someone who is most familiar with newer games, perhaps very ugly to look at. However, I think most people who are working on freedoom are doing so primarily for their own enjoyment. Many enthusiasts believe that the 'spirit' of FPS gaming captured by doom has not since been faithfully reproduced. I find it suprising to learn that there isn't enough interest in the q2 community to do something similar - if you are a q2 fan and think this is a good idea, start it up! All you need at the very least is some organisational skills. 2003-07-05 08:49:32 10252
FreeDoom games -1 Re: Great project! I think the work involved in making a model for a 3d game is a lot less than making a sprite-set, which is a considerable amount of work. The additional low-res limitations, plus the fact that the number of frames per animation etc. are all fixed in this instance mean that you need quite a lot of time, patience and inginuity to create something new on the 'frame' of something old. 2003-07-05 08:52:32 10206

Anyway, I have to slightly change my statement: It would be really great if xlogical's and pathological's tile sets were exchangeable. 2003-07-05 09:02:41 12467
FreeCraft games -1 Some more possible follow-up projects an other possible follow-up project could be: <a href="http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/stratagus/">Stratagus</a>(I assume this will move to savanna)<br> An <a href="http://www.nongnu.org/robovasion/faq.html">FAQ</a> from the robavision page about all this. and <a href="http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/stratagus/faq.html"> a shorter version of it, good summary</a>, I think.<br> Possible FCMP follower could be <a href="http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/stratagus/games.html"> Aleona's Tales</a>, but it has to take great care that it does not use<br> e.g. character names which are already used somewhere else.<br> looks all very inofficial but maybe interesting to complete the summary info for now. 2003-07-05 15:24:48 0
Pathological games 8243 Re: Not really new. There are three main issues with sharing graphics with XLogical: <ol> <li>The resolutions are quite different.</li> <li>Pathological has a few game elements that XLogical (and Logical) don't have (switches, replicators, buffers, ...) so these graphics would have to be added.</li> <li>XLogical's wheels are animated and employ an extra layer, requiring some small code changes.</li> </ol> None of these are major issues, but I'm happy with the current look. OTOH, if somebody is willing to do the graphics work, I'll be happy to do the code changes. 2003-07-05 17:06:12 12465

pydance games -1 Great job! I'm using pyDDR 0.7.1 on Libranet (Debian) from source. Everything works great, especially using a PS mat with the USB converter. Native support for .dwi files works really well, which is very important as the majority of files out there are in .dwi format and not having to convert them makes things much easier. I only play in solo mode so have nothing to say about the other variations. <p>Things I would like to see added. Retaining high scores, stats, etc. A way to quickly jump through mixes -- I have amassed some 200+ sim files and getting around all of that can be just as much of a workout as playing the game. Being able to use the mat without ever needing the keyboard (hitting select and start at the same time is a method the PS versions use to back out of a game in progress). And perhaps sorting within sorting i.e. I usually sort by mixes, being able to sort those by bpm or feet might be useful as well (though not that important). <p>I highly recommend this to anyone especially DDR players. I've now retired my PS1 in favor of pyDDR. <p>Dave 2003-07-05 19:00:31 0
Pathological games 6879 Fun game I almost missed it, judging a book by the cover and all, I was ignoring it the first couple days I saw it on happypenguin, because the screenshot is just not really impressive. The game is FUN though, well worth playing. Who came up with the idea for gameplay like that originally? I've never played anything like it. Is it possible to skip already beaten levels? 2003-07-05 21:15:51 0
