12399 Tux-n-Run games 7574 A good start My first impressions of this game are that it is very smooth with some well polished artwork for such an early release. It reminds me of Manic Miner, and could be just as adictive. The major setback with this game is not whether the monsters are not yet fully working (cannot kill you), lack of sound or because other things are incomplete (those are to be expected)... the main setback is that the single level which has been offered shows some basic design flaws in the "sensibility" area. Firstly, it's a little frustrating for a first level - there's that jump near the beginning (thank goodness it's so near the beginning!) which is difficult to perform and should be reserved for later on in the game provided we will be able to save progress through each level. Forming words out of layer (level) blocks only serves to tie your game down internationally. If, for example, you want to make a French or Spanish port of the game later on, those levels will not have the same appeal. Profanity (...happens) should definately be swiped; it's the one thing which would bar me from introducing what I'm hoping will develop into an excellent game for the classroom. Two stars so far, and I can only see them going up as you progress. Good luck. 2003-07-01 20:11:03 0

12401 FooBillard games 8236 FooBillard This game is great and comtinues to improve with every release. There are, however, a couple of minor points with the snooker rules that stop it attaining perfection. (I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but here goes anyway...) Firstly, after potting the cue-ball, I find that the opponent is unable to move the cue-ball within the D after it is re-spotted. This can be very irritating if your opponent pots the white, and the ball is re-spotted putting you in a snooker behind a bulk colour. In addition, on the shot subsequent to this shot, the cue-ball can be moved about (and shouldn't be able to be). Secondly, it would be nice if after your opponent commits a foul (of any type), that you have the option to "put your opponent back in" and make them take the next shot. This prevents situations where you end up in a snooker after your opponent fouls. There are probably a few other subtle rules changes, but I think these two would make a huge difference. In any case, I really like this game and always look forward to each release. Keep them coming please. I'll shut up now... 2003-07-02 05:22:30 0

12404 DOSbox games -1 Re: Slow Windows 95-98 dont emulate dos. they run off it!!! all you need to do is restart in dos mode. (windows xp, on the other hand has no dos and does a lousey job emulating it. i can see how you might need it then) 2003-07-02 09:04:00 9562
12405 FreeCraft games 7620 Re: Who's fault could it be?....Hmmm...
I'm aware of the FcMP graphics, but that project was started after the Freecraft engine project was started. My comment about ripped graphics was about their intent. To create a clone is one thing, but to have a project with the intent on using ripped graphics is what my rant was all about. It's their intent is why I flamed the project.

Now, as an engine, I'm told the Freecraft project is pretty good. I find it such a shame that they didn't take the tallent for engine writing and produce an "independant" game instead of some ripped clone. Just so you know, I don't concider a clone to be similar works. WarCraft is not some Dune clone even though they're similar games.

In regards to Blizzard, I still do find them petty. First it was their narrow minded attitude about non-Windows platforms. They're very pig headed with alternative environments. But now with the greedy dominance they're pushing.....what can I say...."I am the Pirate King...it tis it tis a wonderful thing to be a Pirate King...".

Really, when you think about it, the actions that the Freecraft developers took by shutting down the site was more dammaging then trying to fight Blizzard. The site was already dieing, and by shutting it down only makes Blizzard look bad. The only thing to do now is publisize Blizzards actions. Nobody likes a bully (unless he's on your payroll)
2003-07-02 09:07:28 12289

12408 Virtual Jaguar games -1 Platform specific Ok, it's great to see another application, but why did you use the X86 assembly language? Sure, 55% of all Linux computers are X86, but why not stick with C and aim for some true platform and architecture independent programming? Great port! Jaguar is a motorolla 68k of some kind, so believe-it-or-not linux *can* be ported to Jaguar itself. That would be sweet to bootup a JaguarLinuxRom in this emulator.
HA! 2003-07-02 13:09:59 0
