| 12310 | 3815 | news | -1 | killing games | Kill a game and three new similar ones will pop out. It's just like they it happened with Napster, only that this is in no way illegal. | 2003-06-25 21:05:25 | 0 |
| 12311 | UFO2000 | games | 6309 | Re: Segmentation fault | I had a similar problem when ufo2000.ini was unaccessible for write. The game not only reads, but also stores some configuration information to this file. Try to chmod/chown and probably this will help. For linux version, there is additional problem. I got no sound on Mandrake Linux 9.1. Seems that midi music support is not working, it probably better to disable music but have sounds. Find the string MIDI_AUTODETECT and change it to MIDI_NONE if you have no sounds in UFO2000. If you still have any problems, it is better to ask questions in the official ufo2000 forum. | 2003-06-25 21:52:51 | 12296 |

| 12313 | Pachi el marciano | games | 4207 | Re: very nice game | Thanks for the comments, the game was mainly based in that 80's game that we (the not too young) love. i proceed to response a couple of questions...

1- in the game there are values that makes the "colission tolerance" in the hard level that tolerance is very low, maybe i should set this to a higher value... the hard level was not tested a lot, so i apreciate the comment
2- When the error is "cant read from file" it is beacause the program cannot find the graphics files (located in Tgfx subdir) if you want to compile the game for running from current directory(whithout installing) do a "configure --enable-devel" and "make" (dont do make install), and to run the game just do from the game directory "src/pachi"
3- yes the respawn FX is a little slow, but not more than 2 o 2.5 secs... i think it is cute, and for now will remains.
4- when the game is completely finished i probably release the tools, but you must know that the tools are ulgy and not very nice to use....
5- Pachi is a comics character, but maybe i didn't expressed myself right, he doesnt have a book, it is a comics character but never made a book of him, we just have drawn the comics for fun.

there are already near 6 or 7 levels done but we are a bit short of time, and we are wating to finish some gfx before upload a new version.

regards | 2003-06-26 01:04:33 | 12301 |

| 12315 | 3815 | news | 506 | Re: FcMP | Yep, the inconsistency was the problem, not the graphics by itself. If you look at the FcMP CVS tree you will find sometimes up to four or five different versions of the same object, all of them different and none of them fitting to the other one. But since nobody went down to make all graphics, but only a few, the whole set contained lots of incnsistencies and simply looked ugly in total and that was a point that never got addressed. It wasn't the lack of graphics, but more the lack of coordination and lead at the top of the graphics department.
At the time I did a few things for FcMP the maintainers always where people who didn't do graphics themself and had no clear target beside replacing warcraft2, so there where no intermediate goals like creating a small set of human buildings and construct missions, that only require these buildings, instead there where no single player missions at all and FcMP releases alwaysed looked like random CVS snapshots instead of playable games. | 2003-06-26 01:19:04 | 12305 |

| 12317 | Soccar | games | -1 | Bandwidth | A game like this should be able to be played well with a 28k modem. If you aim for this, then at least you will satisfy 56k modem users with decent performance. If this it too difficult, you might wish to look at alternative code from other games. | 2003-06-26 04:38:53 | 12286 |
| 12318 | 3815 | news | 2391 | Unit size and window size | Condulations to the Freecraft team.
BTW: I once played a (somewhat outdated) version of Freecraft. It was a nice game, but in one respect I found the user interface slightly clumsy. The problem was that the units were fairly big compared with the window size. This meant that I had to spend to much of my time scrolling the window around. I don't know if this problem was solved in later versions, but perhaps Grumbel could take it into account when he makes his robovasion game | 2003-06-26 05:54:54 | 0 |
