12259 3816 news 4393 Re: 3816 We're a bit bandwidth pressed right now, so probably not. The tool isnt the issue, thats 3k or so, it is the movies converted into mpeg that are the big thing, thats like, 110 MB, which is a little more than Im willing to host for downloads {:-) 2003-06-24 23:40:08 12238
12260 3816 news 4393 Re: 3816 Nope, bioware didnt give us anything, in fact bioware ignores every email or phone call I make. However we are only distributing the modified files for free with a full shrinkwrapped copy of the game. If we tried to sell a stand-alone installer CD, bioware would be able to eat us for breakfast, but we wont. 2003-06-24 23:43:56 12230
12261 3816 news 4393 Re: 3816 The fault isnt really biowares.
They were forced to move to infogrames for publishing or lose the 3rd edition AD&D rights.
Infogrames is cash strapped and forced an early release. I mean even the windows users suffered, chapter 4 is about a 5th the size it should be because bioware was forced to rush.
They made mistakes but not taing notice of the Linux community, releasing a product with some major issues was not clever, but they still did it. Chances are that they will only break even fo their efforts with the cost of doing it versus extra sales.
No, they didnt do a sterling job, but they DID try. 2003-06-24 23:51:01 12255
12262 3815 news -1 Re: 3815 Dude. There are such things as principles. People should stick to 'em, and maybe, after a while, this wouldn't happen any more. Didn't you ever hear that little speech about the nazis? Something about, "and when they came for me, there was no one left to speak up"? 2003-06-25 01:23:34 12251
12263 3815 news -1 Re: "*****craft-like?" ...be carefull!! uhh... so let me get this straight. They worked for ages on FreeCraft, a clone of WarCraft, and then when someone came along they didn't have the guts to stand up for it, and gave it up. Now, they're doing a clone of Railroad Tycoon from scratch? How long 'till someone tells them to stoppit and go to their room? 2003-06-25 01:27:42 12232
12264 3816 news -1 Good for TuxGames It's good that someone can step in and fix some of the most gaping problems of NWN. Bioware should pay you guys or something ;)
Unfortunately, it's a little late for me to buy NWN off you guys, as I bought it when it first came out, expecting a quick Linux release. Hah. Eventually it got the better of me though and I played it on Windows. So movies don't so much matter to me anymore - I've already seen them and they suck. Obviously bandwidth is an issue with something that size, but what about using BitTorrent for those who haven't had the questionable pleasure of NWN cinematics?
Secondly, will you be doing the same thing with the movies on SoU - that is, shipping them on the disk? I don't particularly care for buying a game with an obscure plot, even if they are as bad as the originals.
Thanks for your time. 2003-06-25 01:32:33 0
12265 3815 news 8162 Re: open projects -> uninovative names? i don't agree with that. take Planeshift for one, the name is really catchy, and it was there for quite some time, Tuxracer is another fine example, Kobo, Frozen-bubble ... Vendetta and ThinkTanks maybe don't fit in 100%, since they're not open-sourced, but still :] 2003-06-25 01:36:47 12256
12266 3815 news 8162 Re: law actually law is meant to clear conficlicts between persons (physical, or companies). and law is meant to help "civilians" in the first place ...the only thing is that the .us law has gone "a bit" offstray and is pretty much there for the money ...law itself is good, how it's used depends on each conntry/state/court/... so please don't accuse all lawyers or even law itself to be bad ...accuse those who are, not those who aren't 2003-06-25 01:42:50 12251
12267 Project LRNJ: Slime Forest games 8191 A winner. Innovative and fun. I previously said that the battles were difficult. (I'm now registered, wasn't then.) You'll notice that when you go to sleep in the game, the game quits. If you try to start up again immediately, you will still be "a little sore" - take the game's suggestion, Let the katakana, hiragana, and kanji brew a little bit in your brain before going at it again. The first time I played, I was frustrated. This time around, after just another hour or so I'm pretty confident in passive recognition of katakana. Battles aren't too bad, as I previously said. Ramp down the difficulty, take a breather after 10 battles or so. You're getting a lot of information thrown at you, it's only natural that it should take a little bit of time to absorb well. Basically, the game kicks ass and I'm going to be spending a lot of time this summer on this puppy. It'll be a good tool for learning the syllabaries and a good number of kanji; when I get back to school I am definitely going to recommend my teacher have all the kids practice with this sucker. DAMNED fine game and I wish other people would adopt innovative formats like this to teach stuff. 2003-06-25 02:19:31 0
12268 3815 news -1 The only sad thing.. The only sad thing is that this new robogame will steal some of Grumbels precious time away from Pingus :) 2003-06-25 03:02:28 12244
