| 12251 | 3815 | news | 4512 | Re: 3815 | You might not be trolling, but you do seem to be flaming left right and centre. The law isn't for citizens, it's a weapon of war for corporations to crush us with- so you needn't be so cricical of people not wanting their lives taken away over some game, even a popular one. And being so critical over Grumbel's choice of name for this project just makes you sound like Blizzard/Vivendi.
Finally, why not wait for when something's released before deciding this isn't going anywhere? | 2003-06-24 18:55:21 | 12249 |

| 12253 | Soccar | games | 7778 | Re: how to compile sources ? | Of course GNU make is available almost everywhere, but auto*/configure is useful only on Unices. You can get it work on Windows using MSYS/Mingw though | 2003-06-24 19:43:27 | 12235 |
| 12254 | Soccar | games | 7778 | Re: Install problems | I don't know much about RPMs (no time for that either), but the linux binary archive is fixed now (the OgrePlatform.so file was missing), and I also added some install instructions to the homepage. Thanks for the suggestions though, will make a readme too some time... | 2003-06-24 21:03:03 | 12237 |
| 12255 | 3816 | news | 6327 | 3816 | I still don't know if I will buy it. I was definitely interested, but I don't have a lot of spare time and there are other games out there with more sincere support for Linux. I'd rather support them, given a choice. I was first put out when Bioware decided not to port all of the authoring tool that would be available for windows. The delays were a bit much give the promised made earlier on. And now they aren't even going to provide something as basic as an installer and the client with lack the video feature. I don't care if it is a legal problem. If they were honestly consider Linux up front, they should looked into it enough as to not paint themselves in a corner. I really would like more RPGs on Linux, and I may buy NWN at some point, but for now, there are other games coming out this year that are much higher on my list. Hyperspace Delivery Boy may not be the RPG that NWN will be, but at least the Linux version is being release in a complete and professional manor.
I don't want to seem hostile toward a decent company that is testing the waters of Linux support, but I don't believe that we should have to get jerked around either. I know the Linux market currently going to have all the release the the Windows market will. I guess I agree with an idea I heard else where, that we should let the Linux game market turn into a place to release poor quality games. As Michael Simms put it in his IRC interview, "Linux being a home for shoddy games will do nobody any good, so quality product is more important than quick buck". $45 is a lot to pay for a piece of crippled software. At the very least, if you are going to sell a hatchet job, you could mark the product down in price.
Edd | 2003-06-24 21:44:05 | 12230 |

| 12257 | FreeCraft | games | -1 | Future of Freecraft? | Hi there,

I'd like to know what is gonna happen to Freecraft now? Is it gonna be discontinued, or could we just rename it and continue with the great game it was?

I know there's something going on, in the sence of Robovision being based on the Freecraft engine, but Robovision is NOT going to be the same as Freecraft.

Can't the creators of Freecraft just rename it and continue with it? And if that's not good enough for Blizzard, then remove the ability to use the WC2 data from the WC2 cd with Freecraft. Freecraft don't need the WC2 data, it was good enough.

So I'd like to ask you all, lets continue with this great game.

Kind regards,
Chris | 2003-06-24 22:38:05 | 0 |
| 12258 | 3815 | news | 6223 | Re: "*****craft-like?" ...be carefull!! | No, it's just a clever marketing. Commercial companeies evaluate risks and win some user base, so why don't exploit their niche? Especialy if we take into account some dirty habits of that compaines, including long development cycle, rare releases, deaf user support and ignorance to player wishes. | 2003-06-24 23:09:30 | 12256 |
