1100 3278 2000-03-03 13:02:28 Category: Role Playing
Description: DROL (Dragon Realm Of Lore) is a RPG/adventure game server loosely based on Legend Of the Red Dragon, a highly popular BBS door game. DROL is being written in Perl. Users telnet into a server running the DROL daemon to play.
DROL will have very good support for plugins, and lots of work is going into the plugin system.
There will be an extensive battle system, message boards, real time chat, multiple classes and skills, and in the future many more features.
The game's core has no "area", ie, you don't walk north/south/east/west, but additional Plugins can be created that would support worlds like this.
If you would like to help out, please sign up for the drol-devel mailling list (you can find it at the web site) and get into the discussion. Why that? Well, I hope that this will be the last version before we have networking (planned for 0.60)! It's considered beta for the following reasons:

The first public release to use SDL
Tons of new stuff (see changelog below), but not much tested
This release is for linux only. I had trouble building the win32 version (all textures are wrong), and I think it's better to test this release with the linux crowd first (MUCH smaller audience).
So what's new: I use SDL now, which will bring fullscreen rendering to non-3dfx users too. Also, we can now play sound effects along with the music (you might want to turn them off though, since they are not completely done yet - this is a first try). Then the's lots of eye candy. And code changes. And ... well, these are the most important:

Arena size is now a variable (game->settins->grid_size or grid_size in gltron.ini)
cam chase speed scales with cycle speed now
fixed lightcycle going backwards (if you liked the old way better, that's an option now)
(optional) sound effects, SDL version only
fixed wall textures being upside down
used wall & floor texture from Nicolas Zimmermann <nicozim@libertysurf.fr>
fixed bug with crash texture turning then crashing during smooth turn
4 different wall textures (Nicolas, Darrell)
added mipmapping with GLU box filter (Darrell)
added different speeds to Game Settings menu (boring, normal, fast, crazy)
fixed chase camera starting position
played with wall dimensions
experimental speed oszillation
very cool new model from Charles Babbage
levels-of-detail for the model
configure players (human, computer, none)
configure keyboard controls (not saved between games yet)
Please have a go at it and mail me when there are problems. glTron 0.59 updated
