Cube | games | 7030 | Rock'n'Roll! | Plays and feels like Quake and has a builtin map editor. A very promising and fun game that is even playable over network with a slow link! I really can recommend playing this if you like FPS games. | 2003-06-24 04:55:30 | 0

3815 | news | 8162 | "*****craft-like?" ...be carefull!! | the happypenguin.org description mentiones smililarity with star/war-craft ...be weary of this ...remember what happened to FreeCraft? ...well, don't let it happen to you ...and drop every mentioning of "FreeCraft" name ASAP!!! use Stratagus, and naybe just explain somewhere that Stratagus is actually a fork of FreeCraft ...don't be the next to fall to blizzard :( ..and good luck on your project, i think you've got a future ...plus i'm glad that FreeCraft engine forked into (at least) two new projects: PIE (Project Inferno's Engine) and Stratagus Engine | 2003-06-24 09:24:25 | 0
3815 | news | 506 | Re: "*****craft-like?" ...be carefull!! | Mentioning that game 'foo' is similar to game 'bar' shouldn't be really any problem, after all Warcraft is similar to Dune and without a doubt the boys and girls at Blizzard got more then a tiny bit of inspiration out of Dune. I am simply honest in that matter, RoboVasion will not break any new ground and due to the use of Freecraft it will be pretty similar to other RTS games already available, there is not really anyway around it and beside that its perfectly legal, its not that Blizzard would have any patent on the "build a base and crush your enemy concept" of most RTSs. | 2003-06-24 09:31:16 | 12224
Soccar | games | 7778 | Re: how to compile sources ? | Hi, I'm the soccar developer. What is maniability? I guess you mean maintainability. I used VC++ 6 on Windows and jam on Linux. Jam is a make replacement, I used it because I don't really like autoconf or make. I used them for a while, but as a developer I consider jam being a superior tool. It is also portable across OSes, not just unices. I saw it first on the Boost homepage, and later in Crystal Space so I tried it. Now I know never want to write a Makefile again. :) | 2003-06-24 09:52:33 | 12218
3815 | news | 8162 | Re: "*****craft-like?" ...be carefull!! | i'm just being cautious ...you've seen what happened to FreeCraft ...i agree that there's very little to no legal base on which Blizzard founded their complaint, but still ...it worked ...i just hope that FreeCraft forks won't suffer from it ...well, for these 3 forks that i've seen unil now, i'm pretty certain that they've got no obsticles ahead in that matter :D | 2003-06-24 10:22:56 | 12225
3815 | news | 506 | Re: "*****craft-like?" ...be carefull!! | Freecraft got shutdown mainly due to the lack of motivation on the developers side, the Blizzard letters doesn't really seem to be the main cause for it. Btw. which is the third fork? There is RoboVasion, ProjectInferno, what else? | 2003-06-24 10:43:48 | 12227
