FreeCraft games 8162 Re: Blizzard style of play? does any game company who ever made a shoot'em'up need to pay ID for their idea on 3d shoot'em'ups ...or maybe even sued by ID for "stealing" their idea? does any modern OS need to pay Xerox for the idea of using movable frames (now called windows) in a OS's GUI? ...does Xerox sue anyone for this? (well M$ tried to sue linux, but apple reminded M$ that they didn't invent the window-idea, so they lost) does anyone pay for using the ASCII? if i have my own style of drinking tea, do i beat up everyone who i see that drinks tea in the same way? ...well, i don't think so and by the way, there are tons of "ports" who are actually new engines made from scratch and also whole game clones who don't get into trouble: exult (ultima VII), freeciv (civilisation; whole game clone), lincity (simcity; whole game clone), freec&c (C&C) ...and don't tell me that these don't have the name made up in the same way that freecraft has. NOONE UNDERSTANDS BINARY TO MAKE A SOURCE-CODE OUT OF IT!!!!! GET REAL!!! ...so how would they "steal" the engine then? ...it's exactly the same as if you see a closed clock in a vitrine, and then you sit near the clock looking at it's pointers and it's box (because that's all you can see!!) and ponder how ot works ...when you figure out how it could probably work, you get sued/forced to destroy your years-long work, because the owner of that clock says "you made a clock, after i did, i've no idea how you made it, and you've no idea how i made it, but destroy it, because it reminds people too much of mine" ...come on!!! 2003-06-22 00:14:32 12128
FreeCraft games -1 Dune?? Didn't anyone play dune? To the best of my knowledge, Dune came before Warcraft, and thus should be the owner to this 'type of gameplay'? 2003-06-22 01:49:58 0
Word Peace games 8163 excellent! Downloaded this game and tried it for 10 minutes, and after this I was already digging up my credit card to register this one :) 2003-06-22 02:00:11 0
FreeCraft games 5676 Email Blizzard please I have been to the Blizzard site and emailed all their departments and used their online Web form to tell them how despicable they are. Yes I know people are saying it's Vivendi's decision and not Blizzards (but we don't know that) and that the FreeCraft guys shouldn't be so willing to accept defeat (change name, game similarities etc.) but they need to know that they have made a bad decision, so it would be a good idea for Linux gamers to email Blizzard/send regular mail expressing their disgust.<br><br> Here's the Web form - <a href="http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=eSupport000&action=form&eDisagree=I+Disagree">http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=eSupport000&action=form&eDisagree=I+Disagree</a><br> Email addresses - sales@blizzard.com, support@blizzard.com, sitelicense@blizzard.com, macsupport@blizzard.com<br><br> Regards,<br> simcon<br> <a href="http://www.btinternet.com/~simon_constable/"><img src="http://www.btinternet.com/~simon_constable/images/badge80x80.gif" width="80" height="74"border="0" alt="fight for the right"></a> 2003-06-22 02:46:18 0
Space Hulk games -1 Space Hulk You wouldn't want to make it angry. Of course you wouldn't hear the roar in space. 2003-06-22 03:33:19 0
BankiZ! games -1 Translation Isn't there anyone who can translate all this (espicially the website)? I don't speak french and I'm looking forward to play this game a long time already... 2003-06-22 04:00:23 0
FreeCraft games -1 Re: Various Even in the USA you cannot "trademark" whatever name and especially common names. Microsoft is actually having trouble with this because Lindows is striking back arguing that Microsoft cannot have a "windows" trademark, because it is a common name/object. There is a law for this. So Blizzard can put a trademark on warcraft or starcraft as they are not common names. But I don't think they have thought of all the possible names (hence freecraft) so IMHO freecraft is not a trademark own my Blizzard, I'm not a lawyer but I'm logic ;-) -- Jean-Christophe 2003-06-22 04:11:35 12117
FreeCraft games 7147 Re: Email Blizzard please Look, enough. Leave Blizzard alone. It is the official statement of Project Inferno that we are not anti-Blizzard, and we do not support any action that is negative towards Blizzard. We also recognize that Blizzard and Vivendi are two different companies, with two different agendas. Besides, Blizzard cannot be all bad, they hired Sam Lantinga, the head developer for the Simple Directmedia Layer. (Hes currently working as a software engineer.) 2003-06-22 04:42:30 12152
