| 12037 | FreeCraft | games | -1 | Blizzard hits new low | I bought both Warcraft I&II and Starcraft. All three are sitting on my shelf right now collecting dust as I've pretty much lost interest in the RTS genre. There are probably at least a few hundred thousand of us in this same situation. You'd think those leeches at Buzzard could have acknowledged those probably millions of licenses not being used at the moment and allowed this project to continue. Just another example of corporate greed gone rampant. Buzzard just killed one project, but they also lost a customer. I won't buy another Buzzard product again. | 2003-06-20 19:24:45 | 0 |
| 12038 | FreeCraft | games | -1 | Blizzard | I stopped buying Blizzard products after they tried to shut down bnetd. Looks like I was right to think they were a bunch of SOBs, but I really didn't expect anything *this* drastic. | 2003-06-20 20:56:30 | 0 |

| 12040 | FreeCraft | games | -1 | blitzoid here | I was one of the people working on Freecraft, and I have to say I am really taken aback at how petty blizzard is acting. They refuse to port any of their games to Linux, yet punish people who write clones of their games for these platforms they refuse to port to. Never mind that every line of code was original and NO BLIZZARD MATERIAL WAS USED OR AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD. You had to use a tool to extract WC2 graphics from an existing copy if you wanted to use them. Sad, it was really starting to shape up. | 2003-06-20 21:45:00 | 0 |
| 12041 | FreeCraft | games | 6547 | well hell | Well I'm going to make sure Blizzard gets a nice dirty Email from me at least. | 2003-06-20 21:56:18 | 0 |
| 12042 | FreeCraft | games | -1 | Re: well hell | me too.. emailed them just bit ago saying why pick on the little guys when you dont have plans to support linux ???..makes no sense at least on one front albeit i'd not mind seeing the 'letter' they got... I think the authors should continue on..change the name and graphics..i'll help out contact me here if desired. -=== | 2003-06-20 22:34:43 | 12041 |
| 12043 | FreeCraft | games | 7914 | FreeCraft | I can't see why they don't hold a mirror of freecraft in some "rogue nation" just in spite, so fags like blizzard can't do a damn thing with their tightarse copyrights. Then to contribute, ppl would seceretly upload stuff to the mirror and thus continuing the project. As far as I see, they can't stop you from working on it yourself.

However it is all a bit besides the point, there was no reason to shut this project down! Blizzard are screwed up the arse, and I mean it. Everything remotely linux or opensource and they shun completely! Battle.net is run on Windows 2000 Server Edition, for goodness sake! They really are going out of their way to avoid opensource as much as possible. Maybe their CEO had a bad experience with it and has this long-standing grudge, because as far I can see, this is more than just a few incidents.

boycott Blizzard. Even though you mightn't think it would make a huge difference, it's less money going into their pockets. | 2003-06-20 22:38:03 | 0 |
| 12044 | FreeCraft | games | 6547 | Re: FreeCraft | I think it's more or less a matter of them not wanting to risk a few bucks giving Linux a chance. I personally used to play Diablo 2 in windblows before I switched to Linux. It is a great game. Too bad Blizzard has decided to "shun" the Linux community for the time being, and now it even appears they're trying to "bully". | 2003-06-20 23:01:56 | 12043 |
