Open Racer games 506 Seems dead No release ever, no news and a mostly silent mailing list, seems pretty dead after all. 2003-06-14 02:06:29 0
TuxTyping games 506 Nice, but could be better. Graphics and sounds is ok, game looks stable and good after all, but there are a few issues that couse a bit throuble. First of there doesn't seem to be any indicator which fish is currently focused, ok Tux is standing under it, but there are very often overlapping Fishes and when they come in at different speed it gets confusing which one is currently the focused one. There also isn't much of an indicator which letters are already typed correctly, thus again if fish comes in and Tux is already standing below it, there is no way to see if Tux will eat the fish or not, turning 'marked' fish into a different color might be a good idea and avoid confusion. Another issue is that it happens quite a lot that the same word is two times or more on the screen, making it confusing which want is going to be eaten if they come at different speed, that should be avoided, words and letters should be uniq. I also kind of missed a way to catch letters in the air, currently one has to wait until the letters hit the bottom before Tux can eat them, that is causing quite a bit of a heavy slowdown in gameplay, thus making the game rather boring since one has to wait most of the time. Giving Tux the ability to catch letters in the air would be a good idea (probally by typing an extra word or so) and would avoid having two overlapping words at the very bottom which both need to be typed more or less at the same time.<p> Even so the graphic is cute and all, Tuxtype isn't all that good as a game (well, its pretty boring due to the slowness) and isn't all that good as a typing programm, since the typing flow is very unnatural (either you simply wait or you have to type two words very quickly to catch them, since both are in the same height and pretty much at the bottom). I am more happy with gtypist as a typing learn programm after all, even so it lacks cute graphics it feels far more functional. One last note, I also missed bonuses, special objects, combos and stuff like that, not sure if any thing of that comes in the later levels, since the game has already lost me after the first two.<p> BTW. Why are background graphics in 256color png format? Shouldn't jpeg lead to better results at a smaller or at least equal size? 2003-06-14 02:28:27 0
TuxTyping games 506 Re: Nice, but could be better. This all was tested with Tuxtype 1.0, havn't had a look at 1.5 yet. 2003-06-14 02:29:38 11912
TuxTyping games 506 Re: Nice, but could be better. Looks like I forgot the rating... next try, I'll give it 3 stars. 2003-06-14 05:51:43 11913
Rise of the Triad games -1 Re: Finally... FYi, ROTT was actually based off the Wolf3D engine. (heavily modified of course.) 2003-06-14 16:07:05 8086
Enigma games 7378 ouch, my mousing hand hurts... Excellent, but many levels are annoyingly frustrating. No keyboard control. The functions of some of the items are somewhat obscure. More help texts sprinkled into the levels, or tutorial levels that introduce the different blocks might be in order... 2003-06-14 17:07:08 0
nethack-el games -1 Is this for real? If you haven't tried this, you absolutely must. We were put on this earth with a purpose and I think these guys have found theirs. 2003-06-14 21:34:43 0
SDL Sasteroids games -1 Shield is a good idea I like the shield addon. There were always situations were its hard to move your ship throu all the stones you break loose, and the warp function was really playing bingo, because you didn't really know were you will appear again and if it will be a save place. With the clever use of the new shield button instead, one can overlive many a dangerous situation.. 2003-06-14 23:44:39 0
America's Army: Special Forces games -1 Quite funny I don't know, but if I was working for the American Army, I wouldn't be wanting to recruit Linux users. 2003-06-15 08:52:09 0
Protector games -1 90 errors - won't compile :( Has anybody -- I repeat: any-body, -- compiled this game on linux? gcc spits out 90 errors, amongst them funny things like main.cpp:362: parse error before `*' token or prot.h:627: parse error before `;' token and prot.h:681: ISO C++ forbids declaration of `list' with no type I have NO idea how to fiddlge those errors away.. what a pity! :-( (FooBilliard was easy to install, just rpm -ihv --nodeps to ignore the nvidia driver..) 2003-06-15 12:36:29 0
