adv770 | games | -1 | Re: Made any points? | By "dizzy room" he meant the misty nowhere, in which the game dumps you at the beginning. Getting out of the catacombs is easy - just keep thrashing about for long enough. It's mapping them that's hard. Can be done though. There is a larger container for water in the game, but you don't absolutely need it for the dunes. Yes, the beanstalk on the bach can be made to grow some more and then you can climb it. And you are in no position to tackle the dwarves yet, by the sound of it. One general piece of advice: ask for help in places where you are stuck (e.g. in the desert) and trust the hints you get. They tend to be scrupulously precise, which is not always obvious. | 2003-06-11 14:43:38 | 11837
America's Army: Special Forces | games | -1 | Re: Stay on topic, please. | Well, this game site has an international audiance and such a game is inappropriate as it's aim is all too clear. Please take this game off your site, it doesn't belong here. | 2003-06-11 15:03:17 | 11860
America's Army: Special Forces | games | 2 | Re: Stay on topic, please. | The Linux Game Tome's mission is to provide a database of games for Linux. America's Army is a game for Linux, thus its inclusion here is appropriate, regardless of what you or I may think about the game itself. <p> Removing games from the database because some members of our audience disagree with the content is a slippery slope that I am not willing to start down. | 2003-06-11 15:49:46 | 11870
America's Army: Special Forces | games | -1 | Re: Stay on topic, please. | Precisely. I remember an anti-Iraq-war game made about 6 months ago, and I saw no outcry about that. Certainly, this is no worse. <P>Remember, computer games are a form of speech. Intentionally censoring certain ones from the list because you don't like their political message is definitely something I would stay away from except in the most extreme and obvious of cases ("Shoot the non-Aryan untermenschen in the employ of the Nazi party... for Linux!" is one that I think would make the cut for obvious). Simply put, I do not think a recruitment ad for the US Army gets anywhere near that criteria. <P>-Erwos | 2003-06-11 16:42:15 | 11871

Brian | games | 600 | Python 2.3 | Sorry; Brian requires Python 2.3, I should have mentioned that. Thanks for reporting. Getting optparse won't fix it, because there are more places where I use Python 2.3. Python 2.3b2 will be out soon and is already very stable, and in the summer Python 2.3final will appear. Because Brian is in development, I have taken an advance into the future and used multiple Python 2.3 features (optparse, enumerate, bool, sets, BZip2). I found this too much to have Python 2.2 compatibility. I will put a notice on the website. Gerrit. | 2003-06-12 03:44:10 | 0
