Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory | games | -1 | Has anyone used with DirectFBGL | fbdri? | DirectFB (http://directfb.sourceforge.net) is the home of a growing number of technologies to allow complex graphics with minimal system load. For example, you can now run X Window System applications without XFree86 by using XDirectFB (found with the DirectFB Project). Just recently (about a month ago), the DRI project (http://dri.sourceforge.net) announced on their mailing list that DRI has been separated from XFree86 and it may be used by other projects. After that announcment, DirectFBGL (yes, located at http://directfb.sourceforge.net also) has now incorporated technology to make use of DRI, thus we can now have accelerated openGL without XFree86. DirectFB's homepage is currently down for maintenance, but when it returns to public contact it can be grep'd and pictures viewed of Quake3 in a Framebuffer with DRI.<p> My question:<br> Does anyone have success with Return To Castle Wolfenstein/ET running in DirectDB or FBDRI?<p> Those of you with Radeons will not have Framebuffer support from DirectFB, so you need to use technology from the FBDRI Project (http://fbdri.sourceforge.net).<p> Thanks and I hope ET is opensourced so we can have it running on PowerPC, Sparc, MIPS, and the more-superior Alpha. | 2003-06-01 13:37:17 | 0
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory | games | -1 | Enemy Territory | From Flatman: This is an excellant multiplayer game, and it is free! Ignore the comments from billabong, I saw him using that name online and he is a Team Killer no wonder he is mad, he has been booted. This is a truly free game of excellant quality. The RTCW dev team is a great group of guys and Id Software rocks. They've been a valuable contributor to the open source cause! | 2003-06-01 15:22:00 | 0
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory | games | -1 | Re: Enemy Territory | Ok, not opensource, free software right? Is the game released with source and everything? Then I'm am really impressed. Great game at any rate. Thanks ID software! | 2003-06-01 16:06:16 | 11676
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory | games | -1 | Re: Works great | I agree. The pop-up shouldn't have been there in the first place. If a team mate is making his team annoyed, use the normal vote methods. Another matter is that I have found a couple of bugs, I'm a bit unhappy about. If you're an engineer and you construct something, and suddenly another engineer comes along to help you, he gets the bonus. That is just sad, and I hope that will be corrected. | 2003-06-01 16:19:11 | 11662
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory | games | -1 | RtCW/ET; not free, not yet OSS | It is not free software: read the EULA and recognize your responsibilities by implied use of RtCW and ET. I believe free software is somthing that you can simply incorporate or use without any restrictions, obligations, grants, recognition, and liability: absolute anonymity. Thus, by my belief, GPL software is not even free because it irrevocably grants use of the software and preserves recognition as well as implements a design to incorporate and restrict software associated with a GPL effect. Somthing released without a license may just as well be incorporated (or stolen) into another project and patented. Thus, you'll never see such free software, with exception to computer virii (big grin, freeeee).<p> I know I sound like I'm crazy, yet it is my most honest and sincere belief. I may have replied to this forum under the guise as "Anonymous", but you and I truly recognize that the administrator and the Internet Service Provider actualy identifies the "Anonymous" people respectfuly by their communications, regardless of what the website says. Take that into affect...the GPL just provides another paper trail that can be followed, although a verry honerable and likable paper trail it may be, true free software is moreso associated to what sunlight is to planet earth...free, without patent, unless you believe the super_being/God granted it to us. Ok I'll be quiet now... | 2003-06-01 18:02:02 | 11677
Neverwinter Nights Client | games | 6879 | Extremely fun game, terrible install | <P>The game is fun, I've logged 21.5 hours playing since I bought it two days ago. The install, however, sucked royally.</P> <P>I bought two copies, one for me, one for my brother. I tried to install the game on my red hat 9 machine, to no avail. Bioware recommends copying the game's data files froma windows machine. I do not have a windows install to copy the files from, nor do I want to. So I used <A HREF="http://www.icculus.org/~ravage/nwn/">Ravage's Neverwinter Nights Installer</A>.The install had repeated problems copying files from the install disc 1.</P> <P>Then I tried to install the game on my brothers Mandrake 9 machine. It installed, but I needed to follow pretty much all the advice on this page.</P> <A HREF="http://icculus.org/~dolson/mdkxp/?c=artcls/nwnfaq">NWN FAQ</A> <P>After the install on the Mandrake box, I copied the whole install over the network to my redhat 9 machine, and then editted the nwncdkey.ini file and put in my 2nd key.</P> <P>I was going to doc the game a point for the ludicrous install process, but I did pretty much spend my entire weekend playing the game, so it's still worth 5 stars even after the highly painful install.</P> | 2003-06-01 19:47:18 | 0

The installation process is a mess. Once installed, the game is drop-dead gorgeous. | 2003-06-01 21:37:57 | 11680 |
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory | games | -1 | Re: RtCW/ET; not free, not yet OSS | Flatman: When I said Id Software supported open source I was refering to the release of Doom, Hexen, Heretic, Quake, and Quake 2 source code. Many great mods such as Tenebrae (check it out; it is amazing...Doom III effects with Quake I). ET is NOT open source as it is based on the Quake 3 engine. It is, though, free to download and play. You'll probably see Quake 3 go open source in another year or two after the Doom III engine is firmly established. Hey don't look a gift horse in the mouth ... free cool linux game to be had... It is a sign of Id's benevolence to linux that there are linux binaries for all of their best games. | 2003-06-01 22:20:50 | 11679
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory | games | -1 | Re: RtCW/ET; not free, not yet OSS | Correction to above "Many great mods such as Tenebrae are based on this code." Sorry for the sloppy writing I got ahead of myself. | 2003-06-01 22:25:01 | 11682
