Columns | games | 1918 | Columns | A cute game, well implemented. Some background music would help. In response to the last poster, there is a reason there are 16 tetris games. Tetris is easy/fun to program, so it makes a good game to learn programming on linux. I am also currently working on a tetris game. After that you can expect a few more useless clone type games. But I have some good ideas, I just need to get my Linux game programming skills to the point that it will be an awesome game, and not a 1/2 implemented nightmare. | 1999-08-06 21:11:23 | 0

Myth II: Soulblighter demo | games | 1876 | Myth II: Soulblighte | I spent 7 hours downloading this thing, but it was worth every second. The graphics are great, considering they are software rendered, and aside from a couple of very minor bugs (i.e. no subtitles, which sucks on a system without sound), everything is super. Five stars, and another round of applause for Loki. :-) | 1999-08-07 11:41:26 | 0
Civilization: Call To Power | games | 1876 | Civilization: Call T | An all-round good game, although there are some things that keep it from getting five stars in my book. Mainly, the hideous slow-downs as the game progresses, and some minor interface problems. Other than that, though, CTP is gonna be on my hard drive for a long time. ;-) | 1999-08-07 11:45:25 | 0
Quake 3 Arena | games | 1876 | Quake 3 Arena | I liked Quake and Quake 2. I never bought 'em, but I liked 'em. :-) Quake 3 Arena has nice graphics, but I can't rate it on gameplay, or much of anything else. Why? Because this thing runs like I'm using a 286! It takes ten minutes to navigate the main menu, and the actual game plays at around 0.00000005 frames per second. It doesn't matter if I use the highest video settings, or the lowest. That's just NOT acceptable on a 350mHz K6-2, with 128 MB of RAM, and a 16MB Banshee card. I know it's a pre-pre-pre-alpha release, but there's no excuse for such lousy performance. Unoptimized code or not, it should be at least a little bit playable. All that saves Q3Test from a one-star rating is the fact that, if you get far enough to see them, the in-game graphics look nice... That, and Q3Test does promise to be lots of fun someday. | 2000-03-17 16:16:08 | 0
Quake | games | 1876 | Quake | Even today, as Quake 3 is in the works, the original stands up well. I'd give it that extra star if they'd stop trying to make a buck off of this version, and let us have it (and full custom-level-usage capabilities) for free. Come on! Nobody's gonna buy Quake today, they'll get Quake 2 or wait for Quake 3 Arena. :-) | 1999-08-07 12:28:17 | 0
Orbit | games | 1161 | Orbit | Very nice visuals! It's fast enough on my machine even without a graphics accelerator. I like the ability to add new missions and shapes. | 1999-08-07 14:41:57 | 0
Orbit | games | 473 | Orbit | Pretty good. Graphics are nice, but flicker a lot on my Voodoo Banshee. Add sound and a little "user-friendly-ness" and I'd add another star. :) | 1999-08-07 17:41:09 | 0
