11634 Raptor - Call of the Wild games -1 Binarys I would like to try this game. does anyone know if there is any binaries for this game? 2003-05-29 23:23:36 0
11635 NiL - NiL Isn't Liero games 6494 Nice game This game is amazing. The graphics are very cute and the controls quite refined. The available weapons are fun. The only big downer is, there is no ai. You can't compare this to worms. This is more like a cross between worms and multiplayer jazz jackrabbit 2 :-)

The build tree is kind of sucky. Might be because the source tarball actually is a cvs dump. You compile it and you get the binary named nil in the directory nil/nil/nil :-) Running it as a server also made my box unstable. X crashed reporting that there were something like 190000 requests, of which around 20000 were not handled. A bit more documentation would be nice.

If you want to have some fun: change the variables in obj_weapon_*.cpp and start blowing up the whole stage. You can also stress test the engine this way, although a 1GHz machine shits itself with ~100 projectiles in the gamespace :-) 2003-05-30 04:23:04 0
11636 Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory games 4063 Re: Redhat 9 and latest NVIDIA Drivers make sure that libGL.so.1 actually exists. If it doesn't, make a link from the NVIDIA libGL library.
su - cd /usr/lib ln -s libGL.so.1-nnnn libGL.so.1 ldconfig -v
where nnnn is the number on the most recent driver library. 2003-05-30 07:22:52 11626
11637 Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory games 4063 Minimum requirements 192MB + TNT2 My machine feels pretty underpowered for this game - but it is playable.
Firstly, I don't recommend playing on a 128MB machine unless you stop pretty much everything else on the system first. Otherwise your machine may swap like crazy and ruin any chance of playing. That said, upgrading to 256MB of RAM made a MASSIVE difference to how this plays.
Secondly, you can play this game on a TNT2/Athlon 650MHz. I've turned most of the options down to medium settings and I'm running at 640x480 and it's managable. No crashes and a reasonable (but not great) frame rate.
As for gameplay, there is the inevitable learning curve as you try and work out how to achieve each of the objectives. Make sure you read the limbo screen! This is a pretty amazing Freebie and major kudos for releasing a Linux version at the same time (and many thanks to idsoftware for the bittorrent link as well - 100Kb/s is a sight to see when downloading 270MB). 2003-05-30 07:58:07 0
11638 Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory games 3 Re: Crashes It seems to work well on my machine running Debian unstable, I haven't done much yet though apart from running around just by myself. I wouldn't know what to do anyways ;)
I'm running the 3123 drivers since the latest drivers were unstable on my machine. 2003-05-30 09:09:15 11623
11639 TeamSpeak games -1 Re: Still a long way to go You might want to try Epistrophy (runs on openbox, dunno if its compatible with other window managers) to create shortcuts. It's very easy and allows you to map anything in any way you like. 2003-05-30 09:54:49 7143
11640 NVIDIA Linux Display Driver games -1 Installation Anyone else tought installing the drivers was a PAIN IN THE BUTT!!!
n+1 rpm-packages... shees, if they only were GPL, they'll be in the kernel by now :)
2003-05-30 11:21:22 0
11641 FreeCraft games -1 Re: Where is the #freecraft channel ? The project is more or less dead.
But try irc://irc.freenode.net/freecraft. 2003-05-30 12:41:31 11517
11642 Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory games -1 high quality settings = less crashes? My configuration was set to improve the fps (800x600, low details, low textures, non dynamic lights, ...) and the game was crashing so much that I could hardly finish a game.
A few hours ago, I switched to a slower configuration (1280x1024, dynamic lights, normal textures, ...) and it doesn't seem to crash anymore. The game is a lot slower but I was able to play more than 2 hours without crashing. 2003-05-30 14:13:41 0
11643 Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory games 6924 Works great The game works great on my system (Debian Stable, P4 2.4ghz, Geforce FX, 1GB DDR) The only negative I've noticed is that some aspects of the game are confusing quite a few people when they start off with bad results. (Mine flags in particular, some of the maps are rather difficult to figure out as well.) For a free (beer) commercial quality game though...this is the bomb. 2003-05-30 15:34:19 0
