11497 Project: Starfighter games 7574 This game is fast and hard If there's a problem with this game, it's the difficulty. The game is blindingly fast on a 1.2Ghz AMD and would have certainly been a crowd getter in the arcades / lunch bars of my student days. I found I was cursing and swearing at the annoying cargo pods (don't lose one!) which always managed to jump into the path of any stray lasers. This kind of irritation can take away from the enjoyment of the game, as the computer almost seems to be cheating in order to prevent the player from aspiring to the next level. Perhaps a long range scanner could be added to make off screen surprises more playable? The game certainly looks polished and the plot makes up for the star the game loses due to the difficult level of play. There appears to be a small glitch in the keyboard buffer... sometimes when a game has ended, the fire button is automatically hit when the net menu appears, prematurely launching another game (fairly rare, about one in several). Overall, if you want a good retro style arcade shooter that can keep a small party of friends amused, this is the one. 2003-05-21 18:13:16 0
11498 Project: Starfighter games 5225 Project: Starfighter for Solaris Sparc!

Project: Starfighter v1.xx really rocks! The quality of the game is professional, and the atmosphere of the game is hectic, frantic, adrenaline rushing, where you are outmanned, outgunned against all odds! It's you against the the mega-corporation! One of the best things is that the game is compilable under Solaris UltraSparc...! You still need the SDL libraries though! This game is a winner! No UNIX game hardcore should be without! I'm playing it on an Ultra2 2x400mhz UltraSparc II cpu with 2gig ram, and a Creator3D frame buffer, and also on an Ultra10/440mhz UltraSparc IIi/1gig ram/Elite3D-m3 frame buffer, and the speed/action/responsiveness of the game (via the arrow keys/CTRL-key) is superb!

Cheers!
Georgie

Georgie's SOLARCADE

2003-05-22 01:37:39 0

11502 Zinc games 8000 Updated screenshot For your delight and amusement we've updated the screenshot so that it is now a Linux screenshot (taken in fvwm2). The look and feel class used is the Kunststoff look and feel which is available from http://www.incors.org/ and is GPL'd.
I notice with some amusement that nobody spotted the most fundamental problem with the screenshot i.e. that it read "Zinc version 0.4" in the status bar. :) 2003-05-22 04:44:58 11449

11505 NVIDIA Linux Display Driver games -1 Re: Nothing wrong with closed source getting these drivers is a courtesy, not a right. Say WHAT??? Why on earth would I buy a graphics card that didn't have drivers. Noo way! It _is_ in nVidias best interest to not supply half an product. If they would, my next graphics card sure as hell wouldn't be one with nVidia-chips.
So what if Windows have a majority of pc nowdays: Linux is on the rise, even Microsoft has advertised that their UNIX is the "Microcomputer Operating System of the Future!". nVidia sure as knows this...
BTW I still use my Voodoo3 :) 2003-05-22 11:36:53 11348
