ThinkTanks | games | -1 | Tahnka says | Think Tanks is a really great game when you want to just take a break for an hour. It's a no brainer to play yet it's challenging and fun. The online Scrum games can be hilariously fun when everyone is huddled around the scrum goal fighting over the ball. Think Tanks hasn't replaced any of my other mmo games; but it is a great complement that I can use to take a quick/fun break from the sometimes intense and exhausting sessions that other games can provide. | 2003-05-14 13:32:44 | 0

NVIDIA Linux Display Driver | games | -1 | Nothing wrong with closed source | Sheeshh! There's nothing wrong with closed source. For goodness sake, people are getting these drivers at no cost. What I personally object to is other software that claims to be open source, yet has stupid licensing that contradicts this. NVidia is under no moral obligation to release GPL code. Many other vendors release closed-source Linux drivers at no cost, and people are grateful. Remember with the market share that MS has, getting these drivers is a courtesy, not a right.<BR><BR> How about people write to NVidia to thank them for the excellent drivers - with their excellent installer and 3D performance. They rock! | 2003-05-14 15:15:03 | 11327

3699 | news | -1 | Re: 3699 | You can tell that the comments in this forum are not written by professionals. They are illinformed or just play inflamitory. <p> Perhaps, you should be greatful for people's contribution instead of being a jerk. There is no reason to insult the people who created these logos, that's just not cool. | 2003-05-14 18:47:21 | 11272
3699 | news | -1 | Contest | I don't know if it's just me, but the whole contest seemed rather jumbled-together: I saw no guidelines for size, number of colors (2 or 3 colors would be easier to print than a full gradient, I'd think), the file format they should be in, how many entries should be sent in (as you can see, there are quite a few cases where the same theme shows up, perhaps without text or with a slight modification), etc. They said that the logos would be going up for voting this last thursday (or wednesday, maybe), but they didn't give a deadline for submissions (one should probably assume sometime BEFORE they go up, but if you send them in the night before they go up at 2AM, it will be hard for them to set up the page in time, and they might have to, say, put them up several days after they said they would.) Similarly, I find their arrangement of the pictures to be rather unpleasant; one very long page with a table with pixtures and links to vote for them next to them? I'd think they could at least group ones of the same theme together for easier comparison (although maybe they wanted to spread them out to make us look through all the other logos before we vote? :) Also, given that these logos were made by volunteers from the community, without any mention of a prize for winning, I'd say many of the logos are rather good! I just hope that they do not try to get the community to make the graphics for their website :) Anyway, lets pick a logo and start making some games!! | 2003-05-14 19:17:32 | 0
Eternal Lands | games | 7914 | promising but... | This project looks to be very promising and i look forward to each release, however there is one major issue that I think is of importance... <br><br> The attitude of the developers seems out of touch with that of us, the gamers seem to want more in the game. After exploring their forums a bit I've noticed that the developers will rarely ever accept helpful advice and do it in a rather rude manner. <br><br> For example (dont quote me) a post when somthing like this....<br> gamer: Hello, I was just wondering if you can make the movement a bit faster cause at the moment it's soo slow that it is painful. Anyway, have a think about :) <br>Here was the response: entropy: No <br><br> Now this guy has a point, the walking is deadly slow and having it set like that will definately turn off a few people. I think the developers of this project should listen to us a bit more since we are the one's who will be paying for extra features ( clans, houses, banners, extras...) when the game is a bit more mature. I do acknowledge what you are doing for the linux community but if there is something that the majority of players want (with good reason) then you should always consider it, otherwise you are just going to get people off side. <br><br> Perhaps releasing the source code might be a start, since we don't all have x86 processors!! This does not mean that you need to GPL it, but alot of ppl want to compile this stuff ourselves just cause we are used to it :). It is also true that your license would not hold up to the scrutiny of a court. <br><br> In reply to this, pls don't get abusive. IT's just my point of view and I'm not forcing you to believe it! | 2003-05-15 00:57:28 | 0
